Most Americans Celebrate Christmas and
Believe in the Divinity of Jesus Christ
The following was posted on Rasmussen Reports on December 24, 2010:
For an overwhelming number of Americans who celebrate Christmas, Jesus Christ is the Son of God.
New Rasmussen Reports polling finds that 87% of Americans celebrate Christmas in their family, and 70% of that group recognize it as a religious holiday celebrating the birth of Christ rather than a secular one. Twenty-seven percent (27%) celebrate Christmas as a secular holiday. (To see survey question wording, click here)
This consistent with findings earlier this month and over the previous two holiday seasons.
Among those who celebrate Christmas, 81% believe Jesus Christ is the son of God sent to Earth to die for our sins. Nearly the same percentage (83%) also think that Jesus Christ actually walked the Earth 2000 years ago. Slightly fewer (73%) believe Jesus Christ was born to the Virgin Mary.
